Summary

  • New Benz is powered exclusively by electrified four-cylinder engines.
  • A little extra price tag for a small luxury car with mega strength.

About thirty years ago, when usually companies could not think of taking such high risk,  Mercedes-Benz went ahead and launched a sedan vehicle that was one of its kind, the first-ever "compact class" model. The model was renamed and re-launched as "C-Class" in 1993 and was offered in three variants - sedan, wagon, and coupe.

In February 2020, the German manufacturer launched a sixth-generation C-Class car in both sedan and estate form with a redefined structure. It's the first combustion-engine model from the automaker that can be electrified in all variants.

The New Radical C-Class

The vehicle has petrol and diesel engine options with electrified four-cylinder engines. The new luxury-focused S-Class hugely influences technology and interior design. According to the auto experts, Mercedes-Benz has developed the model to compete with the latest BMW 3 series. The C-Class exterior design is similar to previous models; however, some noticeable design twists throughout.

The new model also brings the Mercedes' second-generation MBUX infotainment system in a portrait orientated design. With C-Class's MBUS phone app, the user can control home automation by voice. The C-Class also follows similar features with the S-Class model when it comes to the steering system. The new dynamic rear-axle steering offers more safety and has a substantially reduced turning circle.

The company believes that the sixth-gen C-Class is suitable for daily use for those looking for an electric car. However, it can also turn into a hassle-free long-distance drive for the weekend. Mercedes-Benz has also announced a battery version for its flagship S-Class model, which will be launched with a complete radical look.

Rivals in the market: What’s the difference?

Let us look at a few existing models from other automakers, which will compete for the advanced sixth-gen C-Class model.

The BMW 3 Series is a perfect rival to Mercedes-Benz's sixth-generation C-Class vehicle. The models fall into the luxury small car category and are ideal for city dwellers. With its deft handling, BMW is more existing to drive while Mercedes focuses on comfort; nevertheless, both cars have powerful engines. BMW 3 Series has a larger trunk compared to C-Class with more space in the second row. The rival vehicle comes with a lower starting price as well.

Audi A4 is another rival for Mercedes-Benz C-Class as it fits in the same category. It is mainly competitive in terms of the interior quality of the C-Class model. It has infotainment features that are more intuitive than the Merc model. Audi's A4 starting price is lower than the Mercedes-Benz's C-Class model, which gives it a slight benefit when compared.
