Top News of the Day || Will Federal Budget announce more focus on women’s retirement funds?

In a budget first single parents with dependents will be offered the chance to purchase houses with only 2% deposit. The New Home Guarantee scheme has been criticized by the opposition as not having created as much opportunity than expected. Yet the Federal government has opted to maintain the scheme while the property market is surging. The scheme opens up 10,000 properties over a four year period to be bought by single parents with dependent children in this manner.

Australia has had a jump in the number of vaccinations this week, with 400,000 being reported to have become inoculated in the last seven days. This brings Australia’s total vaccinations to 2.6 million. Mr. Greg Hunt the Federal Health Minister is reported to be “exhilarated” by these new stats and he urges the population who are now eligible to register to make the move towards doing so as soon as possible. With overseas travel being a huge incentive to get vaccinated, the Australian international borders are not set to open “until it is safe to do so”, which could be some time in 2022.
