Australian's are battling against ever reducing freedoms and a heightening surveillance state. The latest piece of terrifying legislation passed through federal parliament the 'Identify and Disrupt' bill provides police with unchecked powers. Greg Barns SC, a human rights lawyer and lecturer with RMIT University explains it allows police to not only access your social media, email, and devices but to act as you in the process, by sending, receiving and alerting data. The threshold is also incredibly low with "reasonable suspicion" that an "offence may occur" sufficient to enact the new laws. It's an incredibly scary attack on basic human rights and freedoms.
