Recent ransomware attack in Australia
Some media houses have reported that the Department of Defence was hit by a ransomware attack recently through a communication platform used by the military. The department is worried that the personal information of personnel, such as dates of birth, might have been compromised post the attack.
Reports have also revealed that hackers targeted the ForceNet service operated by an external information and communication technology provider. The company initially informed the department that no data of current or former personnel were compromised.
However, an external source having knowledge of the investigation said that the Department of Defence believed that some of the personal information of personnel was stolen through the attack.
