Yandal Resources Ltd (ASX:YRL) has received highly encouraging results from gold intersections discovered during diamond drilling at the New England Granite (NEG) prospect, part of the Ironstone Well-Barwidgee (IWB) Gold Project located in the Yandal Greenstone Belt of Western Australia. The two diamond-drilled holes were primarily intended to gather crucial structural information about the geological formations at NEG, but they also intersected significant gold mineralisation, highlighting the prospect's potential.
The results from these drilling activities are especially promising, given the early developmental stage of the NEG prospect and the extensive target area. The findings indicate that gold mineralisation could be present in various geological settings, suggesting a more complex and potentially richer geological environment than initially anticipated. The most notable results from the drilling included intersections grading up to 3.3 metres at 1.1 grams per tonne (g/t) gold from a depth of 345.3 metres. This result featured a specific intersection of 0.9 metres at 1.8 g/t gold from 347.6 metres, showcasing the prospect's potential.
Yandal Resources’ managing director, Chris Oorschot, expressed satisfaction with the outcomes of these two diamond drill holes, which were funded through the Exploration Incentive Scheme. Oorschot stated that the program was specifically designed to validate the gold mineralisation potential of the NEG prospect while also providing essential structural data to inform the design of a more extensive reverse circulation (RC) drilling program.
The evidence of mineralisation and the structural context observed in these drill holes represent a significant advancement in understanding the geological characteristics of the area. This knowledge enhances comprehension of the broad-scale regolith anomaly present along the eastern margin of a 4-kilometre long and 2-kilometre-wide intrusive body.
Moving forward, the focus for Yandal Resources will be to broadly test the anomalous margins of the intrusive body with targeted RC drilling aimed at interpreted crosscutting structures. The scale of the geological features observed allows for an extensive exploration area, with over 4 kilometres of anomalous intrusive margins available for exploration. The company has indicated that this is just the beginning of exploration activities at the New England Granite prospect.
The assay results from these latest diamond drill holes further underline the prospect's promise. Some notable assay intersections included 2.9 metres at 0.5 g/t gold from 286.2 metres, 3.8 metres at 0.4 g/t gold from 384.1 metres (which included 0.3 metres at 1.9 g/t gold from 385.5 metres), 0.5 metres at 2.2 g/t gold from 393.2 metres, 8.0 metres at 0.4 g/t gold from 137.0 metres, and 9.5 metres at 0.3 g/t gold from 151.0 metres.
In response to these promising results, Yandal Resources has already initiated follow-up RC drilling activities at the New England Granite prospect. The company is also anticipating results from a recently completed drilling program at the Quarter Moon prospect, with results expected to be released in the upcoming weeks. Additionally, preparations are underway for first-pass aircore drilling at the Irulan and Caladan targets, scheduled to commence in early October.
Overall, the recent drilling at the New England Granite prospect marks a significant step forward in Yandal Resources’ exploration efforts. The combination of promising assay results and ongoing drilling initiatives suggests a robust future for the IWB Gold Project, as the company seeks to advance its understanding of the region's gold mineralisation potential.
