Highlights
- Tempest Minerals hits high-grade magnetite in initial drilling at Yalgoo Project.
- Early results show strong iron grades, boosting potential for further exploration.
- Unassessed magnetite zones could expand discovery prospects.
Tempest Minerals Ltd (ASX:TEM) has announced promising initial results from its early drilling efforts at the Remorse copper-zinc soil anomaly, part of its Yalgoo Project in Western Australia. The company reported a significant intercept of high-grade magnetite, with one reverse circulation drill hole revealing a 32-meter down-hole intersection grading up to 39.34% iron.
This early drilling success indicates a substantial opportunity for Tempest Minerals to further explore magnetite-focused resources in the region, along with potential for other metals such as copper and zinc. The Remorse target is showing several untested zones, each spanning about 7 kilometers in strike length, that could offer additional magnetite-rich discoveries.
Tempest expects to receive further assay results from its ongoing drill program in the coming weeks, which will help to better understand the full potential of the magnetite and base metal mineralization.
High-Grade Iron Intercept
The company views the high-grade iron intercept as a significant development, particularly given that previous exploration focused mainly on base and precious metals. The extensive iron-rich layers present at the site had been interpreted through a geological lens of base metal deposit styles, such as volcanic-hosted massive sulfide (VMS) systems. However, recent drilling has revealed medium-grained, massive magnetite mineralization beneath the surface, shifting focus toward iron ore potential.
Copper and Base Metal Results
In addition to magnetite, early drilling has identified isolated copper anomalies, with the highest grade recorded at 0.52% copper, as per portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) data. However, the copper grades so far do not fully explain the copper-zinc anomalies detected in prior soil geochemical surveys. This suggests that there may be more to uncover in terms of base metal deposits at the site.
Ongoing Exploration and Analysis
Tempest Minerals is continuing to analyze data from its drilling program to refine its understanding of the geological context. The company plans to reassess the iron potential at the Remorse target as more results come in, and it remains focused on evaluating both magnetite and base metal prospects for further exploration.
