Highlights
- Taiton Resources acquires Kingsgate Quartz Project, known for high-purity quartz with low impurities.
- Project location provides accessible infrastructure near Glen Innes in Northern Highlands.
- Taiton initiates exploration, focusing on molybdenum, bismuth, and quartz potential.
In a strategic move, Taiton Resources (ASX:T88) has acquired the Kingsgate Quartz Project, a 310.2-square-kilometer asset in northern New South Wales. The project has shown promising high-purity quartz, grading up to 99.99% silicon oxide with minimal impurities, positioning Taiton to capitalize on the growing demand for quartz in technology sectors. This high-purity material is vital for producing solar panels, semiconductors, and various high-tech applications.
Located about 20 kilometers east of Glen Innes, on the Northern Highlands, the Kingsgate project benefits from easy access, with proximity to key highways connecting to major urban centers like Sydney and Brisbane. Taiton has already initiated exploration, focusing on both quartz and additional mineral potential, including molybdenum and bismuth within the EL 9636 and EL 9641 licenses.
Exploration and Access Secured
Taiton’s executive director Noel Ong expressed optimism about this development, highlighting that gaining access to the Kingsgate site marks a significant milestone. The company has collected initial assessment samples from the area, which have shown high-purity quartz with encouraging indicators of mineral quality.
With this acquisition, Taiton has begun targeted exploration using historical data such as drill hole records and geological maps. The team is also in active negotiations with local landholders to expand exploration access across the project area. Initial discussions have reportedly been positive, with landholders showing support for Taiton’s efforts.
Sample Results and Unique Quartz Structures
In its initial sampling, Taiton found quartz samples with impurity levels between 99 ppm and 4,100 ppm. Historical drilling data indicates that the project area hosts multiple quartz pipe structures, with widths up to eight meters and thicknesses reaching ten meters. These quartz structures exhibit clear, glass-like appearances, ranging from opaque to smoky.
Looking Forward: Kingsgate as a Flagship Project
The Kingsgate Quartz Project holds a unique position in Taiton’s portfolio. Known historically for its piezoelectric quartz crystals and high clarity, the area’s quartz quality is not easily replicable. In 2008, Auzex Resources Limited identified significant reserves in Kingsgate, estimating a potential annual yield of 100,000 tonnes of quartz over ten years.
Now regarded as Taiton’s flagship project, the company is prioritizing efforts to advance it towards mining production. With a potential diameter of up to 20 meters, the quartz pipes in Kingsgate could support an efficient underground mining setup, enabling a minimal environmental footprint compared to conventional mining.
