Surefire Resources NL (ASX:SRN) has identified an extensive copper-zinc zone east of its Yidby Gold Project, situated in the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt within Western Australia’s Murchison province.

Recent soil sampling at the Phat Boy area, located on the easternmost tenement (EL2426) of the Yidby Project, has revealed significant copper and zinc anomalies. This area is strategically positioned between two prominent VMS deposits—Golden Grove and Mount Gibson.

The Golden Grove volcanic-hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) deposit is situated approximately 50 kilometers northwest of Yidby East, within the Warrieddar fold belt. Mineralization at this site is associated with folded banded ironstones, meta-volcanics, and volcanic-derived sediments along the northeastern flank of the structure.

In July 2024, Surefire executed a detailed soil sampling program over a region previously known for anomalous copper readings. Soil samples were collected along north-south lines, spaced 250 meters apart with 100-meter intervals, totaling 161 samples sent for lab analysis.

The identified anomaly extends across a width of 5 kilometers, with assay results showing up to 1,000 ppm nickel, 310 ppm copper, 100 ppm zinc, 100 ppm cobalt, and 452 ppm sulfur. Multiple soil samples registered copper concentrations exceeding 200 ppm. Additionally, five rock samples were analyzed using fusion XRF assay at Nagrom laboratory. Notably, one gossan sample displayed high levels of 270 ppm nickel, 460 ppm copper, 200 ppm zinc, and 100 ppm cobalt. Nearby, a banded iron formation and shear zone were observed.

A review of previous exploration by Surefire highlights gossans documented within the dominant banded iron formation of the area, with rock chip samples showing up to 2,000 ppm nickel and 101 ppm gold in stream sediments.

Past drilling by Prosperity Resources Ltd in 2008 uncovered sulphides, including chalcopyrite and native copper, within the banded iron formation. Prosperity's findings suggested potential VMS-style mineralization, attributing the presence of disseminated sulphides to seafloor volcanism and indicating possible VMS mineralization in the area.

Capricorn Metals’ Mount Gibson gold deposit, located 30 kilometers south of Yidby, extends the greenstone and banded iron formation package. Capricorn Metals posits that the Mount Gibson mineralization was originally a gold-copper-zinc-rich VHMS deposit, later overprinted by a hydrothermal gold mineralizing event.
