Sun Silver Ltd (ASX:SS1) has achieved significant results from its extensional drilling at the Maverick Springs silver-gold project in Nevada, with a standout intercept grading 331.76 grams per tonne (g/t) silver equivalent (AgEq). This drilling has revealed broad zones of silver mineralization, extending beyond the current resource boundaries of the project.
The initial hole in Sun Silver’s inaugural extensional drilling program delivered promising results, identifying a 41.15-meter zone with an average grade of 126.75 g/t AgEq, which includes a higher-grade section of 13.42 meters at 331.76 g/t AgEq. This hole, MR24-186, is located 115 meters beyond previous drill intercepts, indicating that high-grade mineralization at Maverick Springs extends to the northwest, closer to the prolific Carlin Trend.
A second extensional hole also returned notable grades, with an intercept of 54.86 meters at 83.89 g/t AgEq from 193.55 meters down-hole, including a 10.67-meter section at 185.50 g/t AgEq (154.73 g/t Ag, 0.362 g/t Au) from 204.22 meters down-hole, and a further 4.57 meters at 257.37 g/t AgEq (244.93 g/t Ag, 0.146 g/t Au).
In addition to silver and gold, recent lab assays revealed anomalous antimony (Sb) levels, with readings up to 1,845 parts per million (ppm) or 0.18% Sb. Historical data also indicates the presence of antimony at grades exceeding 10,001 ppm (1%) Sb over a 1.52-meter section in another drill hole (MR08-184).
Executive Director Gerard O’Donovan expressed satisfaction with the early results, stating, "The impressive intercepts, particularly in MR24-186, not only extend known high-grade mineralization to the northwest but also highlight the significant upside potential of this already globally significant project."
He added, "The discovery of anomalous antimony further enhances the prospectivity of the area, aligning with our strategy to unlock the full value of this asset. These results reaffirm our confidence in the future growth and success of Maverick Springs."
