Sun Silver (ASX:SS1) Detects Antimony in Historic Drill Core at Maverick Springs Amid Global Supply Constraints

Sun Silver (ASX:SS1) recently identified significant antimony mineralization in a historic drill core from its Maverick Springs project, registering pXRF readings as high as 1.3%. This comes as global attention focuses on critical minerals, with antimony becoming increasingly important due to its various industrial applications, particularly in defense and high-tech sectors.

The recent restrictions imposed by China on antimony exports have driven renewed interest in companies with projects that hold this critical mineral. Geoscience Australia has listed antimony at the top of its national critical minerals list, and Southern Cross Gold (ASX:SXG) previously highlighted its significance, noting that antimony ranks as the second most important metallic commodity, following gold. Antimony’s abundance in the Earth's crust is notably higher than silver, often occurring alongside silver-lead deposits.

Sun Silver's growing confidence in the Maverick Springs project stems from the detection of anomalous antimony systems across multiple locations on the site. These findings are supported by pXRF scans of five historic drill holes, with the highest grade recorded at over 13,000ppm (1.3%). The consistency of antimony across the 1.3km area strengthens the potential for further exploration.

In response to these discoveries, Sun Silver has taken steps to align with rising U.S. demand for critical minerals. Executive Director Gerard O'Donovan emphasized that the company is actively pursuing opportunities to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Defense to explore funding options. This initiative seeks to advance the development of the Maverick Springs project and address supply concerns driven by China's export restrictions on antimony.

The presence of antimony in all tested drill holes suggests that the Maverick Springs project holds substantial promise for expanding its critical mineral potential. As Sun Silver continues to analyze and evaluate the findings, the company positions itself as a key player in the evolving market for antimony, which is becoming an essential resource for technological advancement and defense applications.
