Highlights
- Lightning Minerals discovers spodumene at Esperança Project in Brazil.
- LIBS analysis confirms lithium oxide content up to 4.04%.
- Fully funded drilling campaign set to begin in early 2025.
The discovery of lithium-rich spodumene continues to underline the significance of Brazil's Lithium Valley in global exploration efforts. Lightning Minerals (ASX:L1M) has announced promising results at its Esperança Project, with lithium oxide (Li₂O) grades reaching as high as 4.04%, further establishing the project’s viability.
Key Findings at Esperança Project
Geological mapping at Esperança uncovered a previously undocumented historical artisanal mine featuring lithium-bearing pegmatites. Field geologists observed elongate spodumene crystals, some measuring up to 50 centimeters in length. Samples collected and analyzed using a handheld LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) device confirmed lithium oxide levels of up to 4.04%.
This marks a significant milestone for Lightning Minerals, providing a direct drill target as part of its planned exploration. Drilling is set to commence in the first quarter of 2025, aligning with the company’s structured exploration approach across its Brazilian projects.
Ongoing Exploration Across Key Projects
Lightning Minerals initiated comprehensive exploration activities in mid-2024 across its three recently acquired projects: Esperança, Canabrava, and Caraíbas. These efforts include geological mapping, soil sampling, and ground reconnaissance.
Initial results from the Canabrava Project identified multiple pegmatite formations and lithium-in-soil anomalies reaching up to 113 ppm lithium. The company expects additional data from these preliminary phases in the coming weeks, which will further guide exploration strategies across all three sites.
Commitment to Lithium and Brazil
The company emphasized its commitment to advancing its lithium projects efficiently and effectively in Brazil. The region's prospectivity, combined with the company’s exploration results, reinforces its focus on contributing to the rapidly growing demand for lithium.
Managing Director Alex Biggs expressed confidence in the exploration outcomes, highlighting the significance of Brazil’s lithium thematic for the company. With drilling set to begin in 2025 and further exploration data anticipated soon, Lightning Minerals is poised to capitalize on the region's lithium-rich potential.
This discovery underscores Brazil’s importance in the global lithium landscape and strengthens Lightning Minerals’ foothold in one of the world's most promising exploration regions.
