Rincon Resources (ASX:RCR) has made an intriguing development with the potential discovery of niobium and rare earth element (REE) mineralisation at its Avalon and Sheoak targets. Using a hand-held pXRF machine, the company identified elevated REE elements associated with syenite intrusions in both areas.
Assay results from recent drilling are anticipated soon, with samples from the recent RC drill run either in Perth or on their way to assay labs. Additionally, diamond drill hole samples are being processed.
Recent drilling has also confirmed that gravity anomalies are likely due to dense mafic to ultramafic volcanic host rocks. The presence of these features suggests the possibility of a carbonatite-hosted REE system on site, though further data is needed for confirmation.
According to Rincon’s Managing Director, Gary Harvey, “A hand-held pXRF unit was used in the field to assist in determining geology and to detect Nb and REEs. The results suggest a potentially large alkaline intrusive complex of syenite intrusions and related alteration.”
The discovery aligns with the global occurrence of significant Nb-REE deposits in syenites and carbonatites within calc-alkaline intrusive complexes. The next steps involve confirming whether these features are present within Rincon’s West Arunta Project area.
