Highlights

  • Petratherm discovers regionally extensive titanium-rich mineralisation in saprolite clay.
  • Potential for free dig operations with high-grade ilmenite-dominant content.
  • Further drilling planned to assess continuity and expand resource potential.

In an exciting development, Petratherm (ASX:PTR) has identified a promising new form of titanium-rich heavy mineral (HM) mineralisation within its Muckanippie project in South Australia. This discovery, which is located away from the Rosewood heavy mineral sands, is hosted in saprolite clay, potentially paving the way for efficient, free dig operations.

Significant Drill Results

The recent drill program unveiled impressive assay results, including substantial titanium content. Notable intervals from the Nardoo, Duke, and Claypan prospects include 44 meters grading 29.4% HM from the surface to the end of the hole, 61 meters at 19.7% HM, and 45 meters at 27% HM from 6 meters depth. These prospects are situated along a magnetic trend, indicating the potential for mineralisation across a strike of more than 15 kilometers.

Potential for Large Scale Operations

The saprolite-hosted HM deposits start from or near the surface and display thicknesses ranging from 40 to 60 meters. The soft nature of the material suggests that conventional mining techniques could be employed, making it advantageous for open-pit, free-dig mining. Preliminary evaluations reveal a high-grade ilmenite dominance with leucoxene credits, and processing might be feasible using standard HM recovery methods.

Exploration and Future Prospects

Petratherm has embarked on a comprehensive drilling campaign, completing 49 holes across 10 targets, with findings from eight targets indicating anomalous titanium levels. Additional samples are being tested to determine their HM concentrations. The Duke and Nardoo site mineralisation appears to originate from deep weathering process and aligns with identified magnetic trends, a promising indicator for further exploration success.

Next Steps in the Muckanippie Project

The company plans to continue its exploration efforts to test the continuity of this new style of HM mineralisation relative to magnetic trends and explore other potential HM models. This represents the start of an optimistic journey for expanding operation viability and discovering new resources within this emerging titanium province.

Petratherm's recent exploration achievements underscore the company's potential to uncover valuable mineral deposits. With continued efforts and strategic drilling initiatives, there is considerable hope for a prosperous mining operation that aligns with traditional techniques while harnessing new mineral sources.
