NRW Holdings (ASX:NWH), an Australian mining services provider, has secured a substantial $1.6 billion mining services agreement (MSA) with Stanmore SMC for the South Walker Creek (SWC) Coal Mine located in central Queensland. The new contract is set to boost NRW’s operations and extend its footprint in the mining sector, particularly in the steel-making coal space.
The contract will be executed through NRW’s wholly owned subsidiary, Golding Contractors, which has been tasked with the responsibility of operating and maintaining eight fleets of heavy mining equipment. These fleets will be used to remove overburden and mine steel-making coal, consistent with the company’s current contractual arrangements at the mine. The contract will commence in January 2026, with a projected five-year term.
This marks a new milestone for NRW, as it represents the company's largest-ever order book, lifting it to an impressive $7 billion. The agreement also reinforces NRW’s long-standing relationship with Stanmore SMC. According to CEO Jules Pemberton, the company’s drilling and blasting subsidiary, ADB, is already working with Stanmore at the South Walker Creek site, and Golding's involvement renews its previous association with the mine.
The equipment and assets used for the contract will include those that NRW previously acquired as part of its purchase of the mining services contract and associated fleet from HSE Mining, which had been operating at the South Walker Creek site. This strategic acquisition further positions NRW to handle large-scale mining projects with greater efficiency and capability.
One of the significant outcomes of the contract is its contribution to employment in the region. Approximately 650 personnel will be employed through the project, with most of them being based locally. This employment boost will not only support the mining operations but also stimulate economic activity and regional development, particularly in central Queensland.
NRW operates across three divisions: civil, mining and minerals, and energy and technologies. The company’s mining and civil businesses offer a range of services, including civil construction, bulk earthworks, road and rail construction, and concrete installation. These services are complemented by NRW’s mining operations, which encompass contract mining, drilling, and blasting services.
With this contract, NRW continues to build on its already impressive portfolio of projects, while also supporting regional employment and contributing to Australia’s resource-based economy.
