Metro Mining (ASX:MMI) has announced a significant milestone at its Bauxite Hills Mine in Queensland, achieving a new monthly shipment record of 793,420 wet metric tonnes (WMT) in October 2024. This marks a 2% increase from the previous record set in September, which stood at 780,000 WMT, and an impressive 18% rise compared to shipments in October 2023.
With a market capitalisation of AU$315.63 million, Metro Mining reported that its year-to-date bauxite shipments have now reached a total of 4.45 million WMT. The company also achieved a new daily transhipment record of 33,364 WMT during October, underscoring its operational efficiency.
Remarkably, these achievements came despite facing challenges that included one and a half days of transhipping lost due to delays in the arrival of a chartered ocean-going vessel, as well as an additional one and a half days lost to planned maintenance shutdowns. This indicates a strong operational resilience as Metro Mining navigated these obstacles.
All assets within the company’s flow sheet are reportedly operating at their nameplate capacity, though there remains potential for further optimisation and integration improvements. Additionally, the offshore floating terminal, Ikamba, has successfully completed its final commissioning and operational tests, further enhancing the company's shipping capabilities.
Bauxite is a critical ore used in the production of aluminium, which plays a vital role in the global energy transition. Metro Mining, a dedicated bauxite producer and explorer, fully owns the Bauxite Hills Mine, strategically located on the Weipa bauxite plateau, approximately 95 kilometers north of Weipa, near the Skardon River coast.
