  • Lithium Universe set to release its Bécancour Refinery study next quarter.
  • Supplier pricing and procurement strategies near completion.
  • Project led by experienced industry expert John Loxton.

Lithium Universe Ltd (ASX:LU7) is making significant strides toward completing the definitive feasibility study (DFS) for its Bécancour Lithium Refinery, located in Quebec, Canada. The company confirmed that the study will be ready next quarter, following the successful completion of the preliminary feasibility study (PFS) in September 2024.

The Bécancour Lithium Refinery is progressing according to plan, with Lithium Universe reporting that 80% of supplier pricing has already been finalized. Additionally, procurement strategies are close to completion, ensuring that the project remains on budget and within scope. The final capital cost estimate is expected to carry an accuracy of ±20%, highlighting the company's attention to detail and strategic planning.

One of the key aspects of the DFS is the use of data from a reference plant, which has enabled Lithium Universe to streamline the process. This approach has proven to be both cost-efficient and effective at minimizing potential project risks, such as budget overruns or delays. The company’s focus on cost management continues to play a critical role in ensuring that the refinery's development stays on track.

The project is led by John Loxton, who brings extensive experience from his work on lithium processing plants, including the Jiangsu Lithium Carbonate Plant in China and Tianqi Lithium’s hydroxide facility in Western Australia. Loxton’s background in managing similar projects has been instrumental in guiding the Bécancour Refinery through its various stages of development.

With the DFS nearing completion, the Bécancour Lithium Refinery is moving one step closer to its goal of lithium carbonate production, a crucial component in the growing global demand for lithium-ion batteries. As the project advances, Lithium Universe is well-positioned to contribute to the expanding market for battery materials.

The upcoming release of the DFS represents a significant milestone for Lithium Universe, reflecting the company's progress and its commitment to advancing the Bécancour project.
