Lightning Minerals Ltd (ASX:L1M) has announced the appointment of Jamie Day, a geologist and seasoned lithium industry executive, as its new non-executive director. This strategic move, effective November 28, 2024, aligns with Lightning Minerals’ ongoing exploration and expansion of lithium assets across Brazil, Australia, and Canada.
Jamie Day is widely recognized for his expertise in lithium discoveries, including his work on Liontown Resources’ (ASX:LTR) Kathleen Valley Project. This project boasts an impressive resource of 156 million tonnes at a lithium oxide grade of 1.4%. Day’s contributions to the lithium industry extend further with the Buldania Project, where he played a key role in its discovery and development. His career spans extensive experience across commodities, including nickel and gold, with contributions to other notable projects while working for companies such as Independence Group (now IGO) and Mincor Resources.
Lightning Minerals’ leadership team views Day’s appointment as a significant addition that will bolster its lithium exploration programs. As the company focuses on resource expansion and advancing projects, Day’s lithium-focused knowledge and strategic oversight are expected to add substantial value.
Day expressed enthusiasm for joining Lightning Minerals, stating his eagerness to contribute to the company’s ambitious goals. He emphasized his alignment with Lightning Minerals’ vision and the opportunities ahead as the company advances its lithium initiatives across multiple geographies.
This appointment coincides with the retirement of Francesco Cannavo, a current non-executive director, who will step down from his role on November 28, 2024, during the company’s Annual General Meeting. Cannavo's departure paves the way for a seamless transition, allowing Day to bring fresh perspectives and support the company's future growth.
Lightning Minerals’ managing director, Alex Biggs, highlighted Day’s track record in lithium discoveries as an asset during a transformative period for the company. Biggs noted that attracting experienced industry professionals like Day is essential to achieving sustainable progress, which aligns with Lightning Minerals’ commitment to responsible and innovative resource development.
With its aggressive exploration campaigns already underway in Minas Gerais, Brazil, Lightning Minerals anticipates leveraging Day’s expertise to strengthen its position within the global lithium sector. The company aims to capitalize on the rising demand for lithium, driven by the growing adoption of electric vehicles and energy storage solutions.
