Highlights

  • Anson Resources advances chemical-free lithium pre-treatment process.
  • Focus on reducing costs and environmental impact in lithium extraction.
  • KOCH DLE testing continues with promising developments in Utah.

Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) has made significant strides with its pioneering chemical-free pre-treatment for lithium brine. The breakthrough technology, reducing iron content in brine to minimal levels without chemicals, was validated during the KOCH Direct Lithium Extraction (DLE) pilot at Utah's Green River Lithium Project. This aligns with the sustainability focus of ASX mining stocks advancing efficient resource extraction.

The unique process, developed at the Anson Lithium Innovation Center in the USA, has reduced the iron content in brine to less than one part per million. This purified brine has enabled the production of approximately 122,000 liters of lithium eluate through the KOCH DLE method. The achievement underscores a step forward in sustainable and efficient lithium extraction practices.

Transforming Pre-Treatment Processes

Traditional brine pre-treatment often involves chemical-based methods to remove iron, which can be costly, environmentally harmful, and time-intensive. Anson’s chemical-free approach offers a streamlined, eco-conscious alternative, significantly reducing the environmental footprint of lithium extraction.

The process is aligned with Anson’s strategy of optimizing its lithium extraction flowsheet to minimize expenses while maximizing returns for stakeholders. The innovation reflects the company’s commitment to advancing sustainable practices in the electric vehicle (EV) supply chain, a sector increasingly prioritizing carbon emission reduction.

Industry Impact and Future Goals

Anson’s approach has drawn attention from industry stakeholders. Executive Chair and CEO Bruce Richardson emphasized the alignment between the company's methods and global efforts to lower carbon intensity in the EV sector. According to Richardson, the company’s iron removal process achieves dual objectives: reducing costs and eliminating the need for chemicals, which supports Anson's goals of maximizing shareholder returns and promoting environmental stewardship.

Ongoing collaboration with KOCH aims to refine lithium recovery at the Green River Lithium Project. The test work is expected to continue through February 2025, with further downstream processing to produce lithium carbonate planned at Anson’s Sample Demonstration Plant.

Testing Progress

The lithium eluate produced through the KOCH DLE process represents a critical step in advancing Anson's technology. Upcoming phases will evaluate the efficiency of downstream processing methods, enabling the production of high-grade lithium carbonate. This will position Anson to cater to the growing demand for sustainable lithium solutions within the EV value chain.

With its innovative and eco-conscious approach, Anson Resources (ASX:ASN) is at the forefront of modernizing lithium extraction and setting new benchmarks for efficiency and environmental responsibility.
