Highlights
- Solis Minerals reports encouraging drilling results at Ilo Este project
- Early findings show signs of copper mineralisation across multiple zones
- Expanded drilling program underway to test further geophysical targets
Solis Minerals (ASX:SLM) has released early updates from its Ilo Este copper-gold project in southern Peru, where the company is advancing exploration with a detailed drilling program. The initial diamond drill hole intersected copper mineralisation across various zones, pointing to the potential presence of a large porphyry system. These findings add to the growing interest in global exploration stories that often attract comparisons with established ASX 200 companies in the resource sector.
Geological Observations
The first hole drilled at Ilo Este encountered intrusive rocks with fault structures, breccias, and zones of alteration, all displaying visible copper mineralisation. Multiple distinct mineralised sections were noted, including near-surface copper oxides and deeper sulphide zones. The geological setting highlights porphyritic quartz diorite and microdiorite units, which are often associated with significant porphyry-style mineralisation systems.
Notably, the intensity of alteration and mineralisation increased with depth, supporting the view that Ilo Este could host a sizeable mineralised body. Disseminated magnetite also aligns with a key magnetic anomaly in the northern part of the project, providing further evidence of a robust geological system.
Ongoing Drilling Program
With the first drill hole completed, the company has initiated a second hole located south of the initial site. This step forms part of a broader program aimed at systematically testing structural controls and geophysical anomalies. The campaign is designed to evaluate mineralisation continuity, structural features, and the overall scale of the deposit.
The exploration strategy includes several planned holes across the project area, which collectively aim to build a detailed understanding of Ilo Este’s copper-gold system. As drilling progresses, results are expected to provide further clarity on the scope and potential scale of mineralisation.
Strategic Significance
Copper remains a critical resource in the transition to clean energy technologies, and projects like Ilo Este add to the global pipeline of future supply opportunities. The systematic exploration underway positions Solis Minerals to contribute meaningful insights into the geology of southern Peru and potentially unlock value from one of its core assets.
