- Green Technology Metals (GT1) uncovers promising high-grade lithium at the Root Lithium Project.
- Underground resource expansion potential strengthens with thick lithium pegmatite findings.
- Results to shape an updated mineral resource estimate for the Canadian lithium project.
Green Technology Metals (ASX:GT1) is advancing its multi-asset lithium operations in Canada, with the Root Lithium Project in Ontario at the forefront. Recent drilling efforts have revealed thick, high-grade lithium zones, highlighting the project’s significant underground mining potential.
The initial results from deep extension drilling at the Root Bay deposit confirm resource expansion possibilities. Key findings include pegmatite intersections of 17.3 meters with 1.80% lithium dioxide (Li₂O) from a depth of 611.9 meters and 16.3 meters at 1.27% Li₂O from 378.3 meters. These findings underline the downdip extension of pegmatite RB006 to more than 1,100 meters from the surface and 800 meters beyond the existing pit design.
Strengthened Resource Potential
Drilling at Root Bay East continues with a focus on defining lithium mineralization in north-south striking, east-dipping pegmatites. Promising results from the 2023 program, including intersections of 23.3 meters at 1.16% Li₂O and 11.7 meters at 1.12% Li₂O, serve as a foundation for further exploration. The current 4,000-meter drill campaign is designed to expand the known mineralized zones.
The potential for underground mining is supported by the continuity of pegmatites RB006 and RB007, which extend over significant downdip lengths. Additionally, pegmatite RB017 offers another mineralized layer for underground mine evaluation.
Progress in Drilling and Resource Update Plans
The company has made significant headway in its two-phase, 14,000-meter diamond drilling program, completing 6,450 meters across 11 drill holes in the first phase. The ongoing second phase at Root Bay East aims to further delineate pegmatite structures and build on previous exploration success.
Green Technology Metals plans to incorporate results from 16 planned drill holes into an updated mineral resource estimate, expected once all assays are received in the coming weeks. The current global resource inventory for the Root Lithium Project stands at 24.9 million tonnes, showcasing the project’s robust growth trajectory.
Green Technology Metals’ continued focus on exploration and resource expansion reinforces the strategic importance of its Ontario-based lithium assets, positioning the company as a key player in the battery minerals sector.
