- Reports spodumene-rich intersections, some areas at 30%.
- Phase two targets pegmatite extensions from 2023.
Green Technology Metals Ltd (ASX:GT1) is advancing its exploration efforts at the Root Lithium Project in Ontario, Canada. The company’s ongoing 14,000-meter, two-phase drill campaign aims to deepen and expand its mineral resource base, with early visual observations indicating promising spodumene concentrations.
The drilling effort targets several key areas, including a deep extension drill campaign at Root Bay, where Green Technology Metals recently intersected pegmatite zones with substantial spodumene content. In drill hole RB-24-002, the company reported pegmatite intervals from 611.9 to 629.2 meters, showing visually estimated spodumene content of up to 30%. According to GT1 Managing Director Cameron Henry, these preliminary indicators are encouraging for potential underground resource expansion at the project.
Resource Expansion and Downdip Potential
The drill program aims to confirm the downdip extent of pegmatites RB006 and RB007, which have shown promise for extending lithium mineralization. Key intersections from the current drilling include significant pegmatite thicknesses, visually estimated to contain around 30% spodumene, signaling potential for robust lithium oxide (Li2O) grades.
The completed drilling, totaling 3,771 meters across six holes, has highlighted pegmatite zones with visual spodumene estimates as follows:
- 17.3 meters with ~30% spodumene
- 16.3 meters with ~28% spodumene
- 17.6 meters with ~25% spodumene
One drill hole reportedly reached over 1,000 meters downdip, extending 700 meters below the current open-pit limits, potentially supporting an underground expansion. Other drilling results have also indicated mineable thicknesses at depth, with further testing underway.
Pegmatite Extensions at Root Bay East
The upcoming phase two of drilling, set to begin soon, will focus on Root Bay East, located 1.3 kilometers east of the original Root Bay site. Planned to cover an additional 4,000 meters over 10 holes, this phase will target pegmatite extensions initially identified during the 2023 drilling campaign, which demonstrated notable lithium intersections. GT1 anticipates preliminary assay results in the coming weeks, followed by a comprehensive resource update based on the complete dataset.
Green Technology Metals is working in close partnership with Indigenous communities in Ontario, emphasizing respectful collaboration in line with reconciliation principles. This partnership underscores the company’s dedication to fostering sustainable and inclusive resource development in the region.
With significant visual spodumene concentrations already observed and further assays pending, the Root Lithium Project holds promise for further expansion of GT1's mineral resource base, positioning it strategically in the North American lithium sector.
