Highlights
- New copper zones identified at Surprise Copper Project
- Ongoing fieldwork supports regional exploration potential
- Next phase of drilling program already underway
Antares Metals (ASX:AM5) is making steady progress at its Surprise Copper Project in Northwest Queensland, with its latest drill results unveiling new copper-bearing zones and additional exploration potential. While the company is not currently part of the ASX 200 stocks, its exploration narrative continues to unfold with growing interest in Australia's mineral-rich regions.
Encouraging Signs from Phase Two Drilling
The second phase of drilling has confirmed copper mineralisation within a significant target zone stretching along a 240-metre corridor. This target lies just north of the historic Surprise Mine and aligns with visible surface features such as outcropping quartz-calcite veins and artisanal workings. These surface clues had previously hinted at subsurface potential, now verified through deeper investigations.
A particularly promising area, known as the Marvel prospect, delivered results that align with earlier portable x-ray fluorescence (pXRF) readings. One standout drill hole intersected a broad sulphide zone, including disseminated chalcopyrite, suggesting a robust mineral system. This zone is linked with a geophysical anomaly and is located approximately 1.2 kilometres north of the Surprise Mine, marking it as a separate and noteworthy discovery.
Next Steps in Exploration
With laboratory analysis supporting field observations, Antares Metals has greenlit the planning of a third drilling phase. This upcoming round of exploration will focus on expanding the mineralised zones at both the Surprise and Marvel targets, aiming to clarify the scale and continuity of copper mineralisation in the area.
The exploration efforts are not confined to these prospects alone. Field activities remain active across multiple sites within the Mt Isa North Project, including Conglomerate Creek, Moonside, Julius, and Startle. Spanning over 2,000 square kilometres, this broader project area is strategically positioned near Mount Isa, one of Australia’s key mining hubs.
Looking Ahead
Antares Metals continues to demonstrate the geological potential of its copper exploration assets in Queensland. The company's presence at the upcoming Noosa Mining Investor Conference will likely offer further insight into its strategic plans and exploration milestones.
As the global demand for copper rises, companies exploring new frontiers like (AM5) may play a vital role in future supply chains. The latest developments at Surprise reinforce the region’s importance in Australia’s evolving mineral exploration landscape.
