Great Western Exploration (ASX:GTE), a copper, gold, and base metals explorer in Western Australia, is advancing its exploration programs with a focus on high-potential drilling prospects at the Yerrida North Project. This underexplored region is shaping up as a key area for potential discoveries, with the company identifying significant targets including Sumo, Juggernaut, and the Oval.
The Sumo target, characterised by a large, well-defined niobium anomaly, spans 2km by 1km and was identified through lag soil sampling. This anomaly represents a high-priority drilling prospect within the Yerrida North Project. Alongside this, six additional targets at Juggernaut have been highlighted for their volcanic-hosted massive sulphide (VHMS) copper-gold potential. VHMS deposits, known to occur in clusters, offer promising opportunities for exploration.
The Oval and Oval South targets, also located within the Yerrida Basin, share geological and geophysical features with Winu-style intrusive-related copper-gold systems. Their proximity to notable deposits such as DeGrussa and Monty further underscores their potential.
As part of the ongoing exploration, Great Western Exploration has commenced a downhole electromagnetic (DHEM) survey at the Oval target. This survey, launched earlier this month, faced delays due to heavy rainfall and will resume in mid-January 2025. The data collected from the DHEM survey will be interpreted and modelled by consultants Newexco, aligning with drill assays anticipated in February 2025.
Managing Director Shane Pike expressed optimism about the company’s trajectory, noting that they are well-funded and prepared for the upcoming exploration activities. These efforts mark a pivotal step in Great Western Exploration’s strategy to uncover significant copper and gold resources within the underexplored Yerrida Basin.
The Yerrida North Project holds vast potential for discoveries due to its location within a geologically rich yet largely untapped region. With a combination of modern exploration techniques and a clear focus on high-potential targets, Great Western Exploration continues to position itself as a key player in Western Australia’s resource sector.
By advancing its exploration initiatives at Sumo, Juggernaut, and Oval, the company demonstrates its commitment to unlocking the mineral wealth of its tenements and contributing to the broader development of the Australian resources industry.
