Highlights
- High Gold Values: Soil and grab sampling return peak values up to 8.4 g/t gold, highlighting significant mineralization at the King Kong prospect.
- Ground Geophysics Success: A 2.4km-long chargeable anomaly coincides with gold-bearing structures, strengthening exploration targets.
- Drilling Underway: Eight diamond drill holes completed, with results expected in December 2024.
Desert Metals Limited (ASX:DM1) has provided an update on its ongoing exploration activities at the King Kong prospect, located in the northeastern area of the Adzope gold project in southern Côte d'Ivoire. The latest results from soil sampling, grab sampling, and a ground geophysics program have revealed significant gold anomalies, sparking further excitement for the project's potential.
Gold Anomalies Discovered
Soil sampling results from the first phase of exploration returned notable gold values, with peak values of 3.55 g/t, 1.61 g/t, and 1.24 g/t gold. Additionally, grab sampling at artisanal gold mining sites in the King Kong and Beach areas returned even higher grades, with results of 8.40 g/t, 6.94 g/t, and 3.06 g/t gold. These high-grade results, spread across a 2.4km length, have confirmed the presence of significant gold mineralization in the area.
Ground Geophysics Survey Identifies Key Targets
Desert Metals also completed a comprehensive ground geophysics program, including Gradient Array Induced Polarisation (GAIP) and ground magnetics (GMAG) surveys over a 5.5km² area. The survey identified a distinct +2.4km-long chargeable anomaly, which directly correlates with the gold anomalies found in the soil sampling. This chargeable zone suggests the presence of sulphides that may host gold mineralization, aligning with the northeast-southwest structural trend of the Birimian greenstone belt, known for significant gold deposits, including in Ghana further north.
Diamond Drilling Program Completed
Building on the successful geophysics and sampling programs, Desert Metals has completed eight diamond drill holes totaling 1,676 meters at the King Kong prospect. The drill core has been sent for gold assay using the Chrysos™ PhotonAssay technique at Intertek Ghana. Results from the diamond drilling program are expected in December 2024, potentially providing more clarity on the extent of gold mineralization in the region.
