Augustus Minerals (ASX:AUG) has secured a major expansion of its exploration portfolio with the acquisition of a substantial gold exploration package in the Eastern Goldfields region of Western Australia. The company has entered into a binding share purchase agreement to acquire 100% of Music Well Gold Mines (MWGM), which holds ten granted exploration licences covering the Music Well gold project. This acquisition expands Augustus’s holdings by 1,345 square kilometers, with two additional licence applications pending.
The Music Well Gold project is situated just 35 kilometers north of the historic mining town of Leonora, an area surrounded by several prominent gold producers, including Northern Star Resources’ Thunderbox mine and Vault Minerals’ King of the Hills mine. This strategic location in one of Australia’s most prolific gold-producing regions positions Augustus to explore and potentially develop high-value gold assets.
The acquisition complements Augustus's existing exploration efforts in the Gascoyne region, where the company is focused on copper, base metals, and uranium exploration at the Ti Tree Shear project. General Manager of Exploration, Andrew Ford, highlighted the acquisition as a significant addition to Augustus's portfolio, providing exposure to the gold sector in a high-demand market.
Since November 2019, MWGM has been consolidating the tenement package and conducting comprehensive on-ground exploration. This includes air core, reverse circulation, and diamond drilling, as well as extensive geophysics, gravity surveys, soil sampling, and rock-chipping programs. Using its proprietary "Three-Schema Gold Prospectivity Model," MWGM has identified a number of high-priority gold targets for follow-up exploration work.
The acquisition positions Augustus for a strategic push in the Eastern Goldfields, with plans to advance exploration in an area with proven gold potential and high-quality infrastructure.
