ABx Group Ltd (ASX:ABX) recently shared insights into its pioneering green initiatives at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) 2024, held at the ICC Sydney. Speaking with Proactive’s Tylah Tully at IMARC's exclusive OnAir @ IMARC podcast zone, ABx Group’s managing director Mark Cooksey outlined the company’s commitment to sustainable resource management and innovation-driven projects.
ABx Group, a forward-thinking Australian company, is dedicated to contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future by focusing on materials and technologies that align with environmental goals. One of its current flagship projects involves developing an ionic adsorption clay rare earth elements (REE) project in northern Tasmania. This project aims to extract valuable rare earth elements, a crucial component in clean energy technologies and electronic devices. By advancing this project, ABx Group seeks to play a significant role in the global shift towards sustainable energy and tech materials, with an emphasis on reducing environmental impact.
In addition to its REE initiatives, ABx Group has established a facility designed to produce hydrofluoric acid and aluminium fluoride from recycled industrial waste. This facility operates under ABx’s 83%-owned subsidiary, Alcore, which was formed to spearhead environmentally responsible solutions for chemical production. Hydrofluoric acid and aluminium fluoride are essential in various industries, including electronics and aluminium production, but their conventional manufacturing processes can be highly polluting. Alcore’s focus on recycling waste to produce these chemicals underscores ABx Group’s commitment to developing sustainable and innovative approaches within the industrial sector.
ABx Group’s contributions extend beyond mining and materials production. The company maintains a unique business segment dedicated to mining and processing bauxite, specifically for cement, aluminium, and fertiliser production. Recognizing the environmental challenges of mining, ABx has implemented best practices to ensure its operations minimally impact agricultural land. The company has made a commitment to restoring and improving the environmental quality of its operational sites, a strategy that involves active engagement with local communities to secure mutual benefits.
By participating in IMARC 2024, ABx Group highlighted its strategic role in sustainable development within the resources sector. The company’s emphasis on green innovation, combined with environmentally conscious business practices, positions it as a leader in promoting cleaner, responsible resource use. Through initiatives like REE extraction in Tasmania and waste recycling with Alcore, ABx Group showcases its dedication to an environmentally aligned approach to resource production and industrial materials, reinforcing its vision for a sustainable future.
