Highlights

  • Novonix partners with Stellantis for high-performance graphite supply.
  • Agreement covers up to 115,000 tonnes over six years, beginning in 2026.
  • Novonix to expand U.S. facilities to meet growing demand.

Battery manufacturer Novonix (ASX:NVX) has announced a strategic offtake agreement with automotive giant Stellantis (NYSE:STLA), aiming to supply synthetic graphite material for electric vehicle (EV) battery production. Under the agreement, Novonix will provide Stellantis' North American partners with a minimum of 86,250 tonnes of high-performance synthetic graphite, with the possibility to increase the supply volume up to 115,000 tonnes over a six-year period beginning in 2026.

The partnership is a strategic step for both companies as they look to strengthen their positions within the growing EV market. The graphite material supplied by Novonix will play a critical role in producing advanced EV batteries, which require high-performance synthetic graphite to meet performance standards for durability and range.

To fulfill the demands of this agreement and anticipated growth in customer needs, Novonix has announced plans to expand its production capabilities in the United States. This includes scaling up its Riverside facility and constructing a new production site in the southeastern region of the country. The expansions are expected to support a substantial increase in Novonix’s production capacity, targeting a total output of at least 150,000 tonnes of synthetic graphite per year.

This significant increase in production aligns with the company’s vision to support the EV industry’s shift towards sustainable energy solutions. The expanded capacity will also allow Novonix to cater to future contracts and meet the rising demand for synthetic graphite, which is essential in high-energy-density batteries. The enhanced facilities in the U.S. will further strengthen Novonix's presence in the North American market, positioning the company as a key player in the sustainable battery materials industry.

For Stellantis, securing a reliable supply of synthetic graphite marks a critical advancement in its goal to ensure a stable EV supply chain. The company has been proactive in establishing partnerships that support its strategy to electrify its vehicle lineup across North America. This agreement with Novonix will enable Stellantis to access high-quality synthetic graphite for EV battery production, bolstering its competitive position in the EV market.

With the demand for electric vehicles expected to continue growing, this partnership underscores the importance of long-term, sustainable material supply chains. The collaboration between Novonix and Stellantis highlights the ongoing advancements in the EV battery sector, as both companies work toward meeting the challenges of an evolving automotive industry focused on electrification and environmental sustainability.
