Highlights

  • Recce to present data on synthetic anti-infective R327
  • Findings address high-priority bioterrorism pathogens
  • Focus on military and public health readiness

Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:RCE) is set to present new research on its lead synthetic anti-infective, RECCE® 327 (R327), at the 2025 Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) in Florida, USA. This premier military research forum brings together thousands of experts to discuss health and readiness priorities for armed forces and wider communities.

The presentation, part of the session “Optimising Medical Readiness, MHS Resilience & Biodefense across R&D for Future Pandemics,” will highlight laboratory findings showing R327’s effectiveness against high-priority bioterrorism pathogens identified by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). These include anthrax, tularemia, glanders, melioidosis and plague.

Laboratory Data Demonstrates Broad Efficacy

Independent research carried out at the Battelle Biomedical Research Center found that R327 was active against multiple dangerous pathogens. These results showed activity across both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including strains resistant to conventional treatments. This aligns with previous testing results against challenging bacterial strains often grouped under the ESKAPE category.

A Distinctive Approach to Resistant Strains

Unique Dual Mechanism

R327 works via a distinctive dual mechanism that targets both bacterial energy production and cell membrane integrity. This method helps it act against multi-drug resistant strains, even those carrying genetic resistance markers. Such resilience is an important quality in biodefence measures, ensuring that existing resistance pathways do not undermine its effectiveness.

Military and Public Health Applications

Given its broad activity spectrum and robust mechanism, R327 is being explored for applications in both military operations and public health emergencies. This aligns with ongoing collaborative work under a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the US Army’s top biodefence facility.

Ongoing Development and New Formulations

Current studies are focused on refining R327 by identifying its most active components, with the aim of enhancing clinical performance. In parallel, Recce is advancing R327G — a gel formulation designed for treating burn wound infections, supported by funding from the US Department of Defense. This development reflects a broader strategy of creating versatile anti-infectives suitable for field and clinical deployment.

While Recce Pharmaceuticals is not part of the ASX 100 stocks, its work demonstrates how smaller-cap innovators contribute meaningfully to national and global biodefence preparedness.
