Recce Pharmaceuticals Ltd (ASX:RCE) has taken a significant step forward in its global expansion strategy with the recent announcement of a Chinese patent grant for its synthetic anti-infective drug candidates, RECCE 327 and RECCE 529. This development not only strengthens its intellectual property footprint but also positions the company to target major pharmaceutical markets in Asia.
The patent, which provides protection until 2041, covers key aspects including the drugs’ methods of use, administration, and manufacturing. RECCE 327 is designed to treat bacterial infections, while RECCE 529 addresses viral infections—together forming a pipeline of promising solutions to combat global health threats. The coverage of infections includes acute bacterial skin and skin structure infections (ABSSSI), diabetic foot ulcers, urinary tract infections, gonorrhoea, and pneumonia.
China’s pharmaceutical industry—currently valued at approximately US$5 billion—is expanding rapidly at an annual rate of 6%. This new intellectual property protection opens doors for Recce to broaden its market footprint in the region and tap into Asia’s rising healthcare demands. Additionally, this move complements investor interest in ASX dividend stocks, as companies like Recce demonstrate potential long-term value through strategic IP growth.
Recce is already conducting a Phase III clinical trial in Indonesia for RECCE 327, targeting diabetic foot ulcer infections. Interim results are expected in the first quarter of 2026. This trial also serves as a gateway into other ASEAN countries, leveraging harmonised regulatory pathways that can speed up regional approvals and market access.
On the other side of the globe, plans are underway for a Phase III trial in the United States for ABSSSI, following the completion of a successful Phase II study in Australia. This international approach demonstrates Recce’s ambition to commercialise its therapies across multiple jurisdictions, aligning with its commercial and regulatory roadmap.
As the ASX200 index continues to reflect the dynamism of Australian-listed companies, Recce Pharmaceuticals is carving a niche in the health sciences space, supported by its growing IP portfolio and clinical progress. This latest China patent win reinforces its long-term global strategy and highlights its positioning among innovative biotechnology names in the ASX landscape.
