Tryptamine Therapeutics (ASX:TYP)
Tryptamine Therapeutics has unveiled promising results from its Phase 2a clinical trial for fibromyalgia, conducted in collaboration with the University of Michigan and presented at the IASP 2024 World Congress on Pain. The trial explored the efficacy of TRP-8802, an oral psilocybin formulation used alongside psychotherapy.
Fibromyalgia, a condition marked by widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and other symptoms, has limited treatment options. The trial reported that every participant experienced improvements in pain, sleep, and overall quality of life one month after treatment. Additionally, reductions in anxiety and enhanced cognitive abilities were noted, with one participant even experiencing a return of their sense of smell following a previous COVID-19 infection.
These results underscore the potential of psychedelic-assisted therapy for managing fibromyalgia. Building on this success, Tryptamine Therapeutics is preparing for a Phase 2 trial of TRP-8803, an intravenous psilocin treatment, scheduled to begin in early 2025.
Actinogen Medical (ASX:ACW)
Actinogen Medical has shared mixed results from its Phase 2a XanaCIDD trial for Xanamem. While the trial did not meet its primary endpoint related to cognitive attention, Xanamem demonstrated significant benefits in treating depression.
The trial reported a meaningful reduction in depression symptoms, as measured by the MADRS scale, both at the end of the six-week treatment period and four weeks afterward. Xanamem was also well-tolerated, with a safety profile consistent with previous studies.
However, the trial's primary endpoint of enhancing cognitive attention was not achieved, possibly due to unexpectedly large improvements in the placebo group. The promising results for patients with less severe depression suggest potential for further investigation, especially in specific patient groups and future trials.
PYC Therapeutics (ASX:PYC)
PYC Therapeutics has reported encouraging progress with its investigational drug VP-001 for Retinitis Pigmentosa type 11 (RP11), a severe genetic eye disorder. Recent data show that patients receiving a 75-microgram dose of VP-001 experienced significant improvements in vision, particularly in retinal sensitivity.
Two patients had notable increases in retinal sensitivity across the macula, the part of the retina responsible for sharp central vision. Despite this, one patient with mutations in two different genes associated with RP11 did not show improvement and instead experienced disease progression.
PYC Therapeutics is continuing to collect data from both Single Ascending Dose (SAD) and Multiple Ascending Dose (MAD) studies, with plans to launch a larger registrational trial in 2025.
Neurotech International (ASX:NTI)
Neurotech International is focused on forming global partnerships and advancing registration efforts for its drug NTI164, which targets pediatric neurological disorders. The company aims to establish strategic alliances in the US, Europe, and select Asian regions to support clinical development, regulatory approval, and market launch.
In Australia, Neurotech will seek provisional registration through the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and complete FDA-required studies, including toxicity and human pharmacokinetic trials. The company plans to initiate clinical trials for NTI164 in conditions such as Rett Syndrome, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or PANDAS/PANS.
These strategies are intended to enhance Neurotech’s value and manage financial, clinical, and regulatory risks effectively.
