In a significant move towards enhancing women's health in Southeast Asia, Sydney-based biotech firm TruScreen Group (ASX:TRU) has kicked off a five-year cervical cancer screening program in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The initiative leverages the company’s advanced TruScreen Ultra screening device, a real-time, non-invasive cervical screening tool powered by artificial intelligence.
Public Health Collaboration Reaches Grassroots
The large-scale community-based program, announced through a collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Public Health Association and Gorton Health Services, is set to reach approximately 260,000 women. This initiative targets Vietnam’s most densely populated urban area and aims to improve early detection rates through convenient, tech-driven diagnostics.
As part of the partnership, the Ho Chi Minh City Public Health Association will oversee logistics including community outreach, mobilization of social workers, and coordination with local authorities. Gorton Health Services will manage the import and installation of the TruScreen Ultra devices, provide training for healthcare personnel, and collect screening data for evaluation.
Major medical institutions including Tu Du Hospital, Hung Vuong Hospital, and Ung Buou Hospital will provide technical backing, while screenings will be conducted at district health centres and private high-tech clinics.
Fulfilling National Health Priorities
This program aligns with Vietnam’s 2016 National Action Plan on Cervical Cancer Prevention, which underscores the importance of advanced screening tools to identify pre-cancerous changes and ensure timely intervention. The plan’s goal is to screen 60% of sexually active women aged 30 to 54, with emphasis on high-risk groups such as smokers and individuals with HPV or HIV.
Currently, national screening rates are around 25% of the eligible 36 million women, highlighting a significant opportunity for impact.
Cutting-Edge Device Brings Real-Time Results
The TruScreen Ultra device offers an innovative approach by delivering instant results without requiring cytology or tissue sampling. It eliminates the need for complex lab infrastructure and is designed for ease of use in community settings. Its portability and quick diagnostic capabilities make it ideal for large-scale public health programs, especially in resource-limited environments.
The device was officially added to Vietnam’s National Technical List in December 2023, enabling its integration into both public and private healthcare services. To date, over 200 devices have been installed across countries including China, Mexico, Zimbabwe, Russia, and Saudi Arabia.
With this program, TruScreen Group (ASX:TRU) strengthens its mission to improve access to life-saving screening technology and empower health systems globally.
