- Firetail increases land at Excelsior Springs Project
- New exploration includes mapping and sampling of key areas
- Drilling program targets Buster and Blue Dick Mines
Firetail Resources (ASX:FTL) is expanding its footprint in the Walker Lane gold belt of Nevada through increased landholding at the Excelsior Springs Project. This strategic move comes ahead of a planned acquisition and is part of ongoing exploration efforts in collaboration with project partner Athena Gold (CSE:ATHA). While not part of the ASX 200 stocks, Firetail’s activities reflect the type of dynamic exploration efforts often associated with that segment of the market.
Following a recent round of staking, Firetail’s team identified several underexplored sites within the project area. These included previously unrecognisable workings and newly claimed zones that are now undergoing a fresh wave of geological mapping and surface sampling.
The Excelsior Project is considered geologically diverse, with features across different deposit styles and structural settings. A key focus is the trend of felsic porphyritic intrusives — geological formations often associated with gold-bearing systems in the region. Firetail has enhanced its presence across these formations, aiming to investigate areas that have seen only limited past exploration.
Current efforts are centred on field mapping and geochemical analysis at the Buster and Blue Dick Mines. These historical workings are being prepared for a diamond drilling program scheduled for the near term. Data gathered from underground surveys and previous exploration will help refine the drilling strategy.
Recent rock chip samples from the project yielded encouraging results, particularly near the Blue Dick Mine. The mineralisation is concentrated along a 3.5-kilometre trend characterised by silica and clay alteration — features typically aligned with gold systems in Nevada.
The broader Walker Lane Trend is historically rich, home to numerous notable mines both active and inactive. The Excelsior Springs Project shares this geological neighbourhood with other operations, including Silicon/Melin under AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE:AU), Round Mountain by Kinross Gold (TSX:K), and the Comstock Project.
As Firetail prepares for the next stage of drilling and development, its expanded landholding and systematic exploration program reflect a significant step forward in understanding and unlocking the mineral potential of Excelsior Springs.
