Strengthening Defence Through AUKUS
The Western Australian Government has reinforced its commitment to AUKUS through its Made in WA plan, allocating significant resources to grow the state’s defence workforce and industrial base. Central to this strategy is the establishment of the Henderson Precinct, a long-term hub expected to enhance the country’s defence capabilities.
Australia’s partnership under AUKUS with the United States and the United Kingdom is positioning the nation as one of the few to operate nuclear-powered submarines, underscoring the scale of this strategic alliance. To further strengthen international ties, a delegation from Western Australia is set to participate in the Defence and Security Equipment International event in London, one of the world’s largest defence showcases.
Local Businesses at the Global Forefront
More than 20 businesses from Western Australia will be presenting their expertise at international forums. Among them, Greenroom Robotics is preparing to highlight its artificial intelligence software, which is already in use by partners such as the Royal Australian Navy, Austal (ASX:ASB), EGS Survey, and SubSea Craft. This innovation reflects the growing collaboration between AUKUS nations to enhance naval and maritime technologies.
Expanding Energy and Economic Partnerships
Beyond defence, Western Australia is setting its sights on global energy opportunities. The upcoming Offshore Europe Conference in Scotland will bring together leaders from across the oil, gas, and energy transition sectors, providing a platform for the state to highlight its role in sustainable energy solutions.
In parallel, Western Australia’s Deputy Premier has embarked on a European mission to explore partnerships across energy storage, renewable infrastructure, transport, and advanced manufacturing. Engagements with organisations such as NHOA Energy, Saipem, and Energy Dome are designed to diversify the state’s economy while showcasing innovation.
Electrification and the Made in WA Plan
A major milestone has also been achieved in the state’s transport sector, with Volgren transitioning its production from diesel to fully electric buses. This step reflects Western Australia’s determination to build sustainable infrastructure under its Made in WA plan, while also strengthening its manufacturing base.
The shift towards electrified transport highlights the integration of environmental responsibility with economic growth, ensuring the state remains a key contributor to Australia’s future industries.
