- WA backs renewable upgrades to boost clean energy supply
- Major infrastructure developments announced for transmission lines
- Clean Energy Link – North supports WA’s energy transition
The Western Australian Government has announced a significant step in its energy transition journey, launching a major infrastructure development under the Clean Energy Link – North Project. This move is aimed at modernising the state's electricity grid and increasing the delivery of renewable energy to industries and households across the South West and Mid West regions.
The initiative is being driven in collaboration with several key players in the energy infrastructure space. Companies including UGL Engineering (part of CIMIC Group – ASX:CIM), Acciona (ASX:ANA), and GenusPlus (ASX:GNP) have been awarded contracts to deliver the necessary upgrades. These developments align with the government’s broader plan to support economic growth, generate employment, and strengthen Western Australia's renewable energy network.
The Clean Energy Link – North Project forms a central part of the state's $584 million plan to upgrade the electricity network. At the heart of this initiative is a new high-voltage transmission line stretching from Wangara to Neerabup Terminal. The project also includes enhancements at Western Power’s Northern Terminal and Three Springs, and new terminal developments at Regans Ford. These upgrades are designed to boost both 132,000 and 330,000 volt capacities within the existing grid.
This infrastructure investment aims to facilitate the smooth integration of new wind, solar, and battery energy sources, making the network more resilient and capable of handling a growing clean energy supply. The project is expected to support the connection of additional renewable generation capacity, addressing both current and future energy needs.
Notably, Western Power, which is state-owned and responsible for managing much of WA’s energy distribution, is at the forefront of these developments. The company plays a vital role in executing the upgrades across the designated regions. This initiative supports the state’s broader “Made in WA” plan, which emphasizes local industry involvement and job creation.
Among the companies involved, GenusPlus (ASX:GNP) is a domestic infrastructure services provider with a strong presence in transmission solutions. Acciona (ASX:ANA) and CIMIC’s UGL (ASX:CIM), while globally diversified, have established operations in Australia and bring expertise in sustainable infrastructure and energy delivery.
The project further underlines Western Australia's alignment with national clean energy goals and highlights the increasing participation of ASX-listed firms in the region’s energy transition. For investors tracking the broader market landscape, these developments tie into evolving trends on the ASX 200, where companies involved in infrastructure, energy, and renewables are gaining attention as part of Australia’s transition toward cleaner sources of power.
As the Clean Energy Link – North Project progresses, it sets the stage for a more connected and sustainable energy future, driven by collaboration between government and key infrastructure partners.
