AVITA Medical , a leader in regenerative medicine, reported notable revenue growth for the third quarter ending September 30, 2024, mainly attributed to the widespread adoption of its next-generation device, RECELL GO. The company posted commercial revenue of $19.5 million, marking a 44% rise from $13.6 million in the same quarter last year. This exceeded market expectations slightly, underscoring the increased demand for the RECELL technology, a breakthrough in treating skin defects and severe burns.
RECELL technology works by using a patient's own skin cells to create an autologous cell suspension. This suspension can be sprayed directly onto wounds, promoting faster healing and repigmentation. Since the technology uses cells from the patient’s body, it reduces the risk of rejection and significantly improves compatibility. By minimizing the need for extensive skin grafts, RECELL technology has proven especially effective for severe burn cases and other full-thickness skin defects, driving its adoption across healthcare providers. The introduction of RECELL GO has further enhanced the company’s position in the field of regenerative medicine, as it offers a more user-friendly solution for healthcare professionals managing complex skin injuries.
However, AVITA Medical’s strong revenue performance came with a notable increase in operating expenses. The company reported a wider net loss of $16.2 million, or $0.62 per share, in Q3 2024, compared to a net loss of $8.7 million in the same period last year. The rise in expenses, totaling $30.2 million, up from $21.1 million in Q3 2023, was driven by increased investment in sales, marketing, and administrative efforts. These strategic investments are part of AVITA’s growth plan to expand its commercial team and broaden product outreach, aiming to strengthen its market position and support long-term growth.
Despite the challenges posed by rising expenses, AVITA Medical reaffirmed its 2024 full-year revenue guidance, projecting a range of $68 million to $70 million. The company’s outlook reflects confidence in the ongoing market demand for its RECELL technology and continued efforts to enhance its market presence.
