Boycott Woolworths trended on Twitter after the hypermarket giant Woolworths Group Ltd (ASX:WOW) disclosed that it would be associating with News Corp on a new community recognition programme.

It should be noted that News Corp is owned by Rupert Murdoch and a petition asking an investigation into Murdoch’s supremacy of Australian news media has earned around a record 420,000 signatures.

The online petition was filed on 12 October 2020 by former Labor prime minister Kevin Rudd who gets targeted often by newspapers owned by Murdoch’s News Corp.

Meanwhile, WOW has revealed its sales figures for the first quarter of financial year 2021. The company reported that its group sales gained 12.3% to reach $17.9 billion. The Group’s e-commerce sales skyrocketed by 86.7% to 1.5 billion.
