Anthony Albanese – Federal Labor leader, calls on the government to prevent the closure of Kwinana refinery citing fuel security.
- The global oil & gas behemoth – BP decided to close the fuel production at the refinery over commercial and international cues and convert it into an import terminal.
- Mr Albanese stated that the current closure would only leave three oil refineries across Australia, putting the fuel security of west coast into jeopardy.
- Job losses are expected to follow the closure as the oil giant would reduce the workforce, including employees and contractors, from 650 to 60.
