Highlights

  • Viking Mines (ASX:VKA) has engaged WSP USA Inc. to support permitting and baseline studies at Linka.
  • The company has initiated a structured three-phase programme to progress toward development readiness.
  • WSP brings global engineering expertise and experience in Nevada mining regulations.
  • Viking is integrating permitting, exploration, and technical studies in parallel workflows.
  • Baseline data acquisition will support regulatory compliance and future project planning.

Viking Mines Ltd (ASX:VKA) has taken another critical step toward advancing the Linka Tungsten Project. The company has engaged WSP USA Inc., a subsidiary of WSP Global Inc., to support the permitting pathway and commence baseline data acquisition at the Linka Tungsten Project in Nevada, USA. The appointment of WSP brings in a global engineering firm with extensive experience in the Nevada mining sector and established regulatory engagement.

This step forms part of the company’s approach to initiate permitting activities early in the project lifecycle, allowing technical and regulatory processes to advance concurrently.

Three-Phase Work Programme

WSP has outlined a structured programme comprising three phases aimed at progressing the Linka Project toward development readiness.

Phase 1 – Baseline Data and Strategy involves desktop and terrestrial assessments to establish foundational data and define the permitting roadmap, including identification of regulatory milestones.

Phase 2 – Resource Characterisation includes field-based surveys covering biological, water resource, and cultural aspects. These surveys are required to build a comprehensive understanding of the project area and meet state and federal requirements.

Phase 3 – Regulatory Compliance focuses on documentation, site assessments, and coordination with regulatory authorities to support approvals for advanced exploration or development activities.

Parallel Development Approach

The company is conducting these permitting and baseline activities alongside ongoing geological exploration and processing concept design work. This parallel approach is intended to avoid delays associated with sequential project development, where permitting typically follows technical studies.

By integrating regulatory requirements into the broader workflow, Viking aims to streamline project progression while maintaining compliance with both federal and state frameworks.

Data and Compliance Focus

The acquisition of baseline data is expected to create a project-specific database to support regulatory submissions and planning. This dataset helps meet statutory requirements and informs future development decisions.

The approach ensures that the Linka Project aligns with regulatory expectations for federally managed lands and state-level approvals, while maintaining continuity across technical and permitting activities.

Viking Mines MD & CEO Julian Woodcock noted: "Engaging WSP is another critical step in moving Linka toward a development-ready state. By commencing the permitting process with baseline data collection an in parallel with metallurgical, engineering, and geological programmes, we are effectively compressing the development timeline. "Building this proprietary database today de-risks the asset and ensures we are well advanced on the pathway towards future permitting."

Next Steps Underway

Following the engagement of WSP, initial activities have commenced. These include:

  • the start of desktop and terrestrial assessments
  • development of a defined permitting strategy
  • preparation for field-based resource surveys.

Upcoming work will focus on completing the permitting roadmap and deploying field teams to conduct biological and water resource monitoring, supporting ongoing compliance and project advancement.

Shares of VKA traded at AUD 0.015 at the time of writing on 19 March 2026.
