Altech Batteries Limited (ASX:ATC) (FRA:A3Y) has announced the relocation of its Silumina Anodes™ research and development laboratory from Perth, Western Australia, to Saxony, Germany. The move aligns the laboratory with the company’s Silumina Anodes™ pilot plant, which has already been constructed and is now operational at Altech’s German facility.
The relocation aims to maximise operational support for the pilot plant, enhance the efficiency of R&D activities and deliver costs benefits.
Silumina Anodes™ Battery Materials Project
The Silumina Anodes™ project incorporates high-capacity silicon into lithium-ion batteries. Through in-house research and development, the company has produced a battery with 30% higher energy and improved battery life or cyclability.
The technology is designed to produce higher density batteries that are smaller and lighter. Furthermore, these batteries release less greenhouse gases.
The company has entered into non-disclosure agreements with automotive companies in Germany and the United States to supply commercial samples of Silumina Anodes™ material for in-house testing.
New Chief Technology Officer Appointment
In conjunction with the R&D laboratory relocation, the company has appointed Dr Luise Bloi as Chief Technology Officer. Dr Bloi holds a Master of Science in Chemistry and completed her PhD studies focused on “Carbon-based Anodes for Lithium All Solid-State Battery Concepts”
Her professional background includes roles at Skeleton Technologies, ACC Automotive Cells Company, and the Fraunhofer Institute, which is also Altech’s joint venture partner in the CERENERGY® Sodium-Chloride Solid-State battery project.
Focus on German-Based Battery Development
Altech continues to advance both its Silumina Anodes™ battery materials project and its CERENERGY® sodium chloride solid-state battery joint venture in Germany. The company is progressing activities in Saxony as part of its strategy to commercialise battery technologies for electric vehicle and grid storage markets.
