Critica (ASX:CRI) begins search for a new Managing Director following Philippa Leggat’s departure
Dr Stuart Owen appointed as interim CEO while recruitment is underway
Jamie Byrde steps into new role as Executive Director
Critica (ASX:CRI), a member of the ASX 200 index and active in Western Australia’s critical minerals exploration sector, has commenced the process of appointing a new Managing Director. The development follows the decision by Philippa Leggat to step down from her position. Leggat, who previously served on the company’s board, was appointed to lead the company approximately a year ago.
The company acknowledged Leggat’s contribution, pointing to her role in driving progress at its key exploration site, the Jupiter Project. Under her leadership, Critica achieved a milestone with the declaration of a maiden resource and shared early-stage metallurgical outcomes during her tenure.
Jupiter Project achieves exploration milestone
The Jupiter Project, located in Western Australia, is Critica’s primary development focus and has recently gained attention due to its rare earth element findings. Earlier in the year, Critica announced the project’s maiden resource estimate, highlighting its scale and composition. This development marked a significant step in the company’s strategy to advance its resource base.
The company also released the first metallurgical testing results for the project. These results demonstrated a notable improvement in grade from the initial resource characteristics, contributing to the technical validation of the project’s quality.
Interim leadership appointed during transition
Dr Stuart Owen, currently serving as Critica’s Chief Geologist and Exploration Manager, has been appointed as interim Chief Executive Officer. Owen brings extensive experience to the role, having been with the company for nearly two decades. His long-term involvement with Critica positions him to maintain continuity during this transition.
Alongside Owen’s interim appointment, another leadership change has been confirmed. Jamie Byrde, who holds the positions of Chief Financial Officer and Company Secretary, has been appointed as an Executive Director effective immediately. Byrde’s expanded role is part of the broader restructuring of Critica’s executive leadership as the board moves forward with the recruitment of a new Managing Director.
Focus remains on critical minerals development
Critica continues to prioritise its critical minerals assets, which are strategically aligned with broader supply chain requirements across various industries. The company’s ongoing efforts to develop rare earth resources within Australia align with national and international demand for diversified critical minerals supply.
With the Jupiter Project at the centre of its operations, Critica remains focused on progressing through the exploration and technical stages necessary for long-term development. The appointment of interim leadership ensures operational continuity while the search for a new Managing Director is conducted.
