  • Patriot Resources (ASX:PAT) confirms a new copper drill site at the Sugarloaf licence in Zambia

  • New surface results indicate encouraging copper presence, aligned with regional mineral trends

  • Discussions planned with Sinomine Resources for ore processing collaboration

Patriot Resources (ASX:PAT), listed on the materials segment of the ASX 200, has identified a new copper drill site within its Sugarloaf licence in Zambia. This development supports the company’s focus on copper exploration in Africa’s mineral-rich Mumbwa region. The Sugarloaf project lies in proximity to the established Kitumba deposit and aligns with the geological features of surrounding high-grade operations.

New Results from Surface Sampling at Sugarloaf

Recent preliminary data from surface evaluations at Sugarloaf have shown copper grades across a wide area. The site’s surface expression covers a significant stretch and mirrors the characteristics observed in the existing artisanal pit on the licence. Portable X-ray fluorescence readings confirmed elevated copper values consistent with previously documented historical figures.

These findings support the geological similarities between Sugarloaf and nearby copper-producing locations, particularly the Kitumba deposit managed by Sinomine Resources. The similarity in mineralisation across both sites contributes to the understanding of the broader copper system in the region.

Historical Exploration and Resource Definition in Progress

Sugarloaf includes an old mining pit that was previously worked on a small scale. Patriot Resources is now focused on advancing the project under the JORC 2012 code. The company is preparing for a formal Mineral Resource Estimate and plans to identify drilling sites for further verification.

Initial work programs will include pit optimisation and assessments necessary to progress toward reserve definition. These steps are part of a broader strategy to prepare the project for development, which also includes expanding regional geological assessments within the Sugarloaf area.

Collaboration for Processing and Development Timeline

To accelerate development, Patriot intends to initiate negotiations with Sinomine Resources. The goal is to create a toll-treatment arrangement that would allow ore from Sugarloaf to be processed at the nearby Kitumba plant, which is currently advancing toward commissioning.

Patriot’s executive leadership has emphasised the strategic alignment of Sugarloaf’s progress with the timeline of Kitumba’s infrastructure rollout. Coordinating development activities with Sinomine could facilitate efficient processing logistics and enhance project delivery timelines.

Exploration Footprint Expanding in Mumbwa District

With the acquisition of Sugarloaf, Patriot Resources strengthens its foothold in the Mumbwa copper belt. The company’s growing portfolio now includes multiple copper assets, ranging from advanced exploration licences to deposits with defined mineralisation. This positions the group to take advantage of regional synergies and infrastructure developments as exploration and project development activities continue to unfold.
