Environmental Clearance Granted for Uranium Restart
The company announced that it has secured approval from Malawi’s Environment Protection Authority for its environmental and social impact assessment. This development clears a crucial regulatory requirement and provides a defined pathway for the recommencement of operations at the Kayelekera Uranium Project.
The environmental and social assessment ensures that environmental effects are addressed at an early stage and includes frameworks for mitigation and oversight. Lotus Resources has emphasized that the project is now positioned to enter final stages of preparation before activities resume at the site.
Focus on Safety, Compliance, and Stakeholder Engagement
According to Lotus Resources, work is underway to finalise documentation and certification in collaboration with local authorities. The company reiterated that it will continue to coordinate closely with all regulatory stakeholders to align its operational restart with national compliance standards.
Leadership also reaffirmed that the restart of operations would prioritize the safety and security of the workforce, communities in proximity to the site, and surrounding environmental systems.
Board Transition Follows ESIA Milestone
Following the regulatory approval, ESG Committee Chair Dixie Marshall has resigned from the board of directors. The company acknowledged her role in progressing key sustainability efforts and credited her with helping establish the foundation required for regulatory success.
Michael Bowen, the company’s Non-executive Chairman, noted that Marshall played a pivotal role during a formative period for Lotus Resources as it moves forward with development of the Kayelekera Uranium Project and related initiatives.
Project Development Maintains International Focus
Lotus Resources maintains an operational footprint centered on the African continent, with its two primary assets being the Kayelekera project in Malawi and the Letlhakane project in Botswana. The company continues to advance its strategic initiatives in both regions while focusing on operational readiness and stakeholder collaboration.
The Kayelekera project remains a key component of the company’s development strategy. The current approval marks another step forward as the company moves towards restarting production in the near term. Broader developments in the uranium sector and energy policy will continue to shape operational and market dynamics across jurisdictions.
