Asian Battery Metals PLC (ASX:AZ9), operating within the exploration and resource development sector, has announced further updates on its ongoing Phase 3 drilling campaign at the Yambat Project in Mongolia. These developments come amid broader strength in the ASX 200, supported by commodity-related gains and continued interest in battery metals.
The company is actively drilling within its Oval copper-nickel discovery and has reported notable progress through a series of new drillholes that provide additional confirmation of mineralised extensions. The Oval and North Oval zones continue to deliver intercepts supporting continuity along the broader mineralised system.
Drilling Confirms Continuity of Mineralised Zones
Asian Battery Metals’ Phase 3 program includes multiple drillholes completed during the current year. Among these, drillhole OVD036 intersected a section of massive sulphide at shallow depth, extending the known mineralisation at North Oval. The mineral composition identified includes pyrrhotite and pentlandite, with minor chalcopyrite, and aligns spatially with previously drilled sections.
Drillholes OVD038 and OVD039 were designed to test the area between the North Oval and Oval zones. These confirmed the presence of a gabbroic body, which structurally links the two areas. The continuity indicated by these results provides a clearer geological framework for future exploratory initiatives.
OVD040, located to the north of previous intercepts, intersected additional sulphide-rich zones that align with earlier geophysical projections. The findings help further define the scale and shape of the mineralised corridor across the project area.
Geological Interpretation and Structural Insights
The Oval discovery is hosted within a geological setting characterised by layered intrusions and mafic rocks, which are typically favourable for copper and nickel enrichment. The presence of disseminated and massive sulphide zones across the drill core supports geological modelling that highlights a prospective trend from North Oval through to Oval.
These zones are considered geologically continuous, supported by recent geophysical and geochemical data. Drill intercepts such as those in OVD036 and OVD040 validate ongoing geological interpretations and have helped the company identify areas for deeper and more targeted follow-up exploration.
Preparations Underway for Electromagnetic Survey
In addition to the drilling progress, Asian Battery Metals has outlined plans to initiate a deep-penetrating ground electromagnetic survey, known as the Samson EM survey. This upcoming survey will assist in refining drill locations and identifying concealed sulphide-rich zones not previously mapped by surface exploration.
A short pause in drilling activities is scheduled to accommodate this survey, after which fieldwork is expected to resume with a focus on newly identified areas. This strategic adjustment allows for integration of fresh data into the exploration program before advancing to the next round of drilling.
