FireFly Metals expands high-grade mineralisation zones at Green Bay Copper-Gold Project in Canada
Drilling operations intensify with seven rigs mobilised, including a focus on resource upgrade and exploration
Assay results show continuity of copper-gold zones beyond current Mineral Resource limits
FireFly Metals Ltd (ASX:FFM) (TSX:FFM), part of the broader materials sector and listed on the ASX 200, has confirmed the extension of high-grade copper-gold mineralisation beyond the current resource boundaries at its Green Bay Copper-Gold Project in Newfoundland, Canada. The project comprises a significant Mineral Resource across measured, indicated, and inferred categories and remains a cornerstone of the company’s accelerated development strategy.
Step-out drilling confirms new mineralised zones
Extensional drilling from the 805-level drive has delivered notable copper and gold intercepts from both volcanogenic massive sulphide (VMS) and Footwall Zone (FWZ) systems. The Green Bay deposit features two distinct mineral styles—upper-level VMS and a more extensive FWZ, known for its broad copper stringer mineralisation. The FWZ is interpreted to stretch across a long strike and remains open at depth.
Results from key drillholes have shown strong continuity of grade, supporting the progression of drilling programs targeting expansion and conversion of current resources. FireFly has already completed a substantial volume of diamond drilling across the Green Bay site since acquiring the asset.
Seventh drill rig mobilised amid intensified exploration
The company is ramping up its underground drilling activity to support planned mining studies. With the addition of a sixth rig expected soon and a seventh rig already mobilised, operations now include five underground units and one surface drill.
This expanded fleet is engaged across three core areas: resource extension, resource conversion, and new zone discovery. A surface drill is also testing historic prospects such as the Rambler Main deposit near the Ming Mine, previously mined in the mid-twentieth century. First assay results from this surface campaign are anticipated shortly.
High-grade hits from deep-level exploration drilling
Drillholes from the 805-level have returned high-grade intersections across both copper-rich stringer and VMS-style zones. These intercepts, characterised by strong copper, gold, silver, and zinc values, indicate the continuity of mineralised zones well beyond the limits of the current resource model.
Notably, recent survey data has highlighted a conductive Down Hole Electromagnetic anomaly extending beyond known drill extents. Previous geophysical studies at the Ming Mine have shown direct correlations between similar anomalies and mineralisation, further validating the exploration model in use.
Three-pronged drill strategy supports resource advancement
FireFly's strategic plan includes a comprehensive drill program targeting tens of thousands of metres across resource extension, infill conversion, and greenfield discovery. The current focus is on identifying additional lodes and feeder systems while upgrading existing inferred tonnes into higher classification categories.
These efforts align with the company’s broader growth objectives, which include technical evaluations, updated resource models, and long-term production planning. The significant strike length and volume of the FWZ, along with continued mineralisation in VMS lenses, position the Green Bay Project as a key asset within the company’s portfolio.
Solid funding supports development momentum
With a strong cash position recorded at the end of the first quarter, FireFly is well positioned to continue its multi-rig drill campaigns, advance studies, and evaluate development options. This financial strength supports the ongoing expansion and discovery efforts at Green Bay.
FireFly Metals’ current operations and resource growth strategy underscore its growing presence in the copper-gold exploration space, enhancing its standing within both the ASX and TSX exchanges.
