Aureka (AKA) appoints former Barrick executive to lead geological team
New leadership brings exploration experience across Victorian and African gold regions
Previous roles included Fosterville and Castlemaine gold field projects
Aureka (ASX:AKA), a gold exploration company listed on the ASX 300 has appointed Jozef Story as its new head of geology. This appointment comes following Story’s experience at Barrick Mining Corporation, where he led exploration across a wide geographic scope. The appointment links two major global mining indexes—ASX and NYSE—through shared industry experience in gold exploration.
Extensive Experience in Tanzanian and Victorian Gold Projects
Story’s most recent position involved overseeing an exploration portfolio in Tanzania while at Barrick. His responsibilities included overseeing activities across a large area of prospective ground. This regional experience follows earlier work in Victoria, where he worked for over a decade across several key gold projects, including the Fosterville Gold Mine, which is operated by Agnico Eagle (NYSE:AEM).
Focus on Central Victorian Goldfields
The new appointment at Aureka brings focus to key Victorian gold regions. Story has previously worked across exploration programs in Castlemaine, Chewton, Raywood, and other Central Victorian areas. These regions have historically been noted for gold production, and his return to Victoria reflects continued exploration activity in this part of Australia.
Background in Multinational Mining Operations
Story’s background spans listed companies operating across both developed and emerging gold markets. His prior involvement with Castlemaine Goldfields and work within multinational frameworks at Barrick (NYSE:GOLD) and Agnico Eagle (NYSE:AEM) adds to his experience in various geological environments and exploration stages.
Strategic Geological Oversight for Aureka
With the appointment now in place, Aureka (ASX:AKA) has positioned a leadership figure to guide geological exploration across its Victorian tenements. While project development plans are not disclosed, the role centers on technical oversight and ground-based geological work in Australia's gold-rich areas.
