Ophir Metals to begin drilling high-grade caesium zone at HW3 Pegmatite in Québec
Channel sampling results support expansion of known caesium mineralisation
Exploration focused on critical metals caesium, lithium, and tantalum in James Bay region
Ophir Metals Corp (TSX-V:OPHR), a diversified mining exploration company, is advancing its work in the critical minerals sector, with drilling preparations underway at the HW3 Pegmatite located within the Pilipas project in Québec’s James Bay region. Operating within a market environment influenced by indexes such as the ASX 200, the company is focusing on caesium, lithium, and tantalum—each designated as critical minerals by Canada and several global jurisdictions.
The primary site of activity, HW3 Pegmatite, lies within the broader Pilipas lithium property in the Eeyou Istchee territory. The area is known for hosting pegmatites enriched with critical elements. Recent developments have drawn attention due to high-grade caesium enrichment identified through surface sampling.
Channel Sampling Expands Known Caesium Zone
Ophir Metals recently completed a channel sampling program at HW3, which confirmed a significant enrichment zone of caesium near the surface. The mineralisation zone spans a surface footprint of approximately eleven meters by four meters, with the broader pegmatite body measuring around fifteen meters by twenty-three meters. These results demonstrate a strong presence of caesium in association with lithium and tantalum, indicating the geological complexity and potential continuity of the mineralisation at depth.
The sampling campaign notably expanded the known footprint of caesium-bearing mineralisation, setting the foundation for the upcoming drilling phase. The company emphasized that the caesium concentrations at surface were some of the most enriched discovered in the region to date.
Drilling to Test Depth and Southern Extensions
Ophir’s drilling campaign is scheduled to commence in early June. The program will cover approximately one thousand meters, aiming to test the vertical extension of the caesium zone and explore areas to the south where the HW3 pegmatite remains open. The company intends to evaluate the extent and consistency of caesium mineralisation below surface as well as in untested regions of the pegmatite.
According to CEO Shawn Westcott, HW3 is among a limited number of pegmatites in the James Bay area that exhibit high-grade caesium enrichment. This positions the pegmatite as a distinctive and valuable exploration focus within the broader context of critical minerals development in Québec.
Pilipas Project and Strategic Positioning
The Pilipas property is comprised of over one hundred thirty claims across a land package spanning several thousand hectares. Ophir Metals maintains a three-year option agreement to earn a controlling interest in the project. Through systematic exploration and early results, the company has identified HW3 as a core area for near-term drilling and assessment.
With its focus on critical minerals essential for technologies such as global positioning systems, aircraft instrumentation, drilling fluids, and next-generation communication infrastructure, Ophir’s ongoing work aligns with growing industrial demand. Caesium’s role in sensitive and high-precision applications underscores the strategic importance of successful resource delineation at Pilipas.
As the drilling program progresses, the exploration results will shape the company’s next phase of activity and contribute to the growing body of geological knowledge in one of Canada’s most prospective pegmatite districts.
