Lincoln Minerals (ASX:LML) confirms base metals presence through historical core re-assaying
Multiple sulphide-rich zones identified at Minbrie Project in South Australia's Eyre Peninsula
Upcoming assays to assess nickel and cobalt concentrations alongside copper-lead-zinc results
Lincoln Minerals (ASX:LML), a participant in the ASX 200 mining sector, has progressed its systematic re-evaluation of historical drill core at the Minbrie Project in South Australia. The project is located on the Eyre Peninsula, within a prolific mineral-rich belt that includes notable sites such as Olympic Dam, Prominent Hill, Carrapateena, and the historical Moonta-Wallaroo operations. These deposits form part of the Gawler Craton, a region known for its extensive copper, lead, zinc, and silver concentrations.
Re-Assaying Confirms High Base Metal Presence
Recent re-assaying work conducted on legacy drill core has reaffirmed earlier discoveries of copper, lead, zinc, and silver mineralisation. The core includes a discovery interval originally encountered during a magnetite exploration initiative at Centrex’s (ASX:CXM) Bungalow Magnetite Project. Despite being drilled inadvertently, the hole revealed noteworthy mineral concentrations, now validated by current re-analyses.
The program has systematically examined historical samples, enabling efficient identification of mineral-rich zones previously overlooked. This includes a stratigraphic package stretching several kilometres and containing sulphide-dense intervals.
Cost-Efficient Review Strategy Unlocks Additional Value
Lincoln’s methodical approach involves logging and assaying thousands of metres of existing drill core. In the northern Minbrie area, numerous samples have been subjected to portable x-ray fluorescence testing, followed by laboratory analysis. This technique has helped uncover untested mineralisation zones within archived samples, substantially advancing the understanding of the project’s broader resource profile.
The company reports that more than a hundred mineralised intervals have been sent for laboratory verification, many of which have returned favourable outcomes consistent with earlier findings. Notably, several of these samples have shown elevated levels of additional elements, such as nickel, cobalt, and chromium.
Assessment of Additional Elements Underway
While Lincoln’s focus remains primarily on copper, zinc, lead, and silver, the detection of nickel and cobalt has prompted an extended assay program to evaluate these additional elements. Analysis is ongoing to determine the significance of these components within the broader resource base.
According to company statements, the systematic reassessment supports a comprehensive geological model being developed for the Minbrie Project. This model is aimed at enhancing the strategic value of the asset by revealing previously unrecognised base metal concentrations.
Final Planning Steps for Exploration Advancement
The current phase of assay work is expected to continue through the coming weeks, with additional results anticipated soon. Lincoln is preparing for the next stage of exploration planning, which includes selection and ranking of drill sites based on updated geological data. This review forms part of a broader strategy to re-activate historical exploration assets through modern, cost-effective reassessment practices.
The Minbrie Project, located within a historically active mining district, continues to yield favourable data from ongoing investigations. The project’s positioning near major mining operations underscores its relevance within South Australia's resource development landscape.
