The Global Resources Innovation Expo 2025 (GRX25), hosted at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, brought together leaders in the Mining Equipment, Technology, and Services (METS) sector. This year’s event celebrated innovation, safety, and international success, with several companies from the ASX 200 index acknowledged for their groundbreaking contributions to the industry.
John Russell Awarded Champion of Innovation
Russell Mineral Equipment (RME) Founder John Russell received the Champion of Innovation Award, sponsored by Emesent. With operations spanning across multiple countries and supporting hundreds of mine sites, RME has established itself as a leader in the global METS landscape.
Russell’s vision to mechanise mill relining began in Toowoomba, Queensland, with a focus on enhancing safety and efficiency. Over decades, this vision led to the development of advanced technologies that allow for liner exchange without requiring personnel inside the mill. This leap forward in mine site safety has been instrumental in setting new industry standards.
RME’s Global Impact and Recognition
RME has consistently been recognised for its commitment to operational safety and innovation. The company was previously awarded the Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference Innovation Award for its Advanced Technology Mill Relining System. This system has redefined mill relining procedures by raising safety benchmarks and improving on-site operational conditions.
The company was also honoured with the Excellence in Safety Shield by Mining.com.au during the inaugural Masters of Mining program. This accolade highlighted RME’s unwavering focus on reducing worker exposure to hazardous environments and enhancing overall mine site conditions.
Contributions to METS Excellence
Austmine CEO Christine Gibbs Stewart praised Russell’s impact on the METS industry, stating that his pioneering approach has redefined concentrator maintenance practices worldwide. His work has played a pivotal role in positioning Australia’s METS sector as a high-tech leader on the global stage.
Russell attributed RME’s achievements to strong collaborations with both customers and suppliers. This partnership-driven approach continues to shape the future of mining technology by introducing safer, more efficient solutions tailored to industry challenges.
