Health Canada has authorized the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for minors between the ages of 12 and 16. Earlier, the healthcare regulator had approved the Pfizer shot only for people above the age of 16.
This decision came after the duo vaccine makers held a trial with over 2,200 kids in that age group in the US and noted no cases of COVID-19 among inoculated kids.
Health Canada's head medical counselor Dr Supriya Sharma said the trial results have shown that this vaccine shot is safer and successful in that age group.
