Founded in 1885, BHP Group Plc was formerly known as BHP Billiton Plc is a UK-based global resource company engaged in the discovery, development, manufacturing and marketing of iron ore, silver, lead, copper, oil and gas and other natural resources. The group was formed with the merger of BHP and Billiton. Its products are sold across the world and it operates across 90 locations, with the objective to bring people and resources together to build a better world and help in making the transition to cleaner energy through its products to deliver long-term value and returns through the cycle. The group offers materials for essential infrastructure, to enable better standards of living and facilitating greater prosperity. The group includes projects, operated assets and non-operated joint ventures in Australia, Chile, US, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and Peru and have a production operations in Algeria and Trinidad and Tabago. The group’s shares are traded on the London Stock Exchange as LON: BHP and is the constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. The group is engaged in the production of the range of commodities such as Copper, Iron ores, Nickel, Metallurgical Coal, Petroleum and Potash and its business segments includes Minerals Americas, Minerals Australia, Petroleum and commercial. The Minerals Americas segment is the leading producer of copper concentrate, zinc concentrate and thermal coal, its copper assets comprises of Escondida (Chile), Pampa Norte (Chile) and Antamina (Peru), Iron ore assets include Samarco (Brazil), coal asset include Cerrejon (Colombia) and potash assets include Jansen potash project (Canada).
Minerals Australia segment produces iron ore, copper, coal and nickel located in Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia. Its copper assets include Olympic Dam (Australia), iron ore asset comprises of Western Australia Iron Ore (Australia), Coal asset includes Queensland Coal (Australia) and New South Wales Energy coal (Australia) and nickel asset comprises Nickel West (Australia). Petroleum segment is engaged in exploration, development and production of oil and gas and its operating assets are located in Gulf of Mexico-US, Australia, Trinidad and Tabago, and Algeria, further its exploration operations are located in Mexico, Deepwater Trinidad and Tabago, Western Gulf of Mexico, Eastern Canada and Barbados. The commercial segment’s core value chain activities includes Sales and Marketing, Maritime and Supply chain Excellence, Procurement, warehousing inventory and logistics and property, Market analysis and economics.
